chrome-extension?

I'd like to propose that the following be added to the edit filter.

• chrome-extension://

If someone is working in Chrome and clicks on a pdf, what ends up in the URL box starts with chrome-extension:// and then a long edit string. So instead of

• https://www.nrc.gov/cdn/doc-collection-news/2025/25-033.pdf

what is in the URL box is

• chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.nrc.gov/cdn/doc-collection-news/2025/25-033.pdf

I'm currently using AWB to clear these up and there have been a couple of oddities (which may be worse cut and paste) but most fit the above where chrome-extension.*/http can be replaced with http to give the valid url. Please let me know if this should be proposed elsewhere.Naraht (talk) 14:54, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Uncontroversial edit request

Please remove the section for "Block autopromote" becuase it is obsolete but why it is retained? WP:HISTORICAL? ~2026-31892-15 (talk) 03:30, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

@~2026-31892-15: It actually isn't obsolete. On every edit filter, you'll notice in the possible consequences to be ticked "Revoke the user's autoconfirmed status". This consequence, if enabled, blocks the assignment of the autoconfirmed right for a set duration of days. It is not in use in any current filters, but can be enabled if a filter requires that consequence, and community consensus is in support of it. EggRoll97 ^(talk) 07:08, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

RFC: should we add the section 'Supressed filters'(or add information about supressed filters into private filters section)

There is a new filter visibility type which is only usable by Oversighters which will allow to set abuse filters to supressed visibility which hides the filter from everyone else, including edit filter manager and helpers but Oversighters can see it. All logs generated by thoose filters are automatically supressed. It's meant to be used in cases such as edit filters meant to prevent doxxing or posting of PII(these abuse filters might contain Personal information or the abuse logs generated by the filter might contain Oversightable information) so should we formalise it?

• Option 1 Add a seperate section into this guideline page.
• Option 2 Add information about supressed filters into private filters section.

This isn't really necessary (nor is an RFC remotely justified here). The WP:Oversight policy already spells out the justifiable uses of suppression, which are also justifiable uses of OS-only filters. EggRoll97 ^(talk) 04:25, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Log feature: cluster multiple hits for same attempt

When a single (attempted) edit is caught by more than one edit-filter, it appears that each of them gets logged separately in Special:AbuseLog; that is, the log is "per hit", not "per edit". It would be useful to have them clustered per edit. That would help highlight how many bad attempts someone makes, vs one bad edit that was caught by multiple heuristics. It would also help diagnose the filters themselves...are some truely redundant because they never trigger alone, or are some types of patterns correlated with each other. Am I understanding the EF system and logging properly? Am I missing this output option control somewhere? DMacks (talk) 23:38, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

@DMacks: You're correct that it logs by hit, yeah. If you're looking through a user's contributions instead, User:Daniel Quinlan/Scripts/Unfiltered attempts to group all the hits from the same edit into one entry on the contributions page. EggRoll97 ^(talk) 23:38, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
