Disputed non-free use rationale for File:All I Want for Christmas Is You - LeAnn Rimes.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:All I Want for Christmas Is You - LeAnn Rimes.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 16:03, 9 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Languages of Mauritius

[edit]

I believe you are wrong. HindustaniMauritian (talk) 07:22, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mauritius has no official languages as such. Yes, the government say that the language to speak is English but French can also be used. However the Bhojpuri speaking union at the MGI encourages the 70% of Mauritians (Virtually all of them are eligible for overseas citizen status of India) to speak Bhojpuri. Furthermore, These statistics are completley unrepresentative of Mauritius as in Masjids Urdu is spoken and the Hindus speak Bhojpuri/Sanskrit. Therefore on paper whilst the language is not spoken by many at home, it is still understood by many.
Do you know of the atrocities faced by early Indian immigrants to Mauritius? They were used as a substitute for slavery and many of the british landowners did not keep to the indenture agreement. This leads Bhojpuri to be classed as a 'Cultural language' and is a respected language, especially amongst the elders.
I hope that you will learn about Mauritius and realise your reasoning is incorrect. Many articles are available on Academia about the language and its place in Mauritius in 2026.
May God Have Mercy.

Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/April 19

[edit]

Hi Tbhotch, I was wondering if you would consider re-adding The Minute Man to OTD for 19 April because it is the 150th anniversary of the statue's unveiling and there is nothing about the battle of Lexington and Concord on the 18th. I added it for the first time last month because of the major anniversary -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 18:12, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Guerillero: I had considered to leave it there at first, but the Baltimore riot of 1861 appear more relevant (in the sense that anniversaries ending on 5 and 0 are preferred over other options, 165 anniversary vs. 151 anniversary), and having two items related to two American wars is excessive, so I had to exclude one. Unfortunately, at the moment I have to leave, so I cannot discuss this further at the moment and when I return, the anniversaries page will be cascade protected. If you want to take any action, I'm not opposed to changes. Tbhotch (CC BY-SA 4.0) 18:27, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nomenclature around AIFA train

[edit]

Given that the AIFA train uses the MI tarjeta and not the suburbano ticketing, and even has separate rolling stock and platforms, I think it is a mistake to list the stations on Tren Interurbano. The operator is not referring to the AIFA train as "interurbano" in any context. Given the separate ticketing, I think it should not be on Tren Suburbano either. Bath School disaster

[edit]

I see that you changed Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/May 18 with this edit and your edit summary was "updating items to avoid repetition over several consecutive years". Was wondering why you removed Bath School disaster when it hasn't been seen in OTD since 2020 but then put in the Sada Abe article and that appeared in OTD in 2021 and 2023, plus Battle of Buir Lake appeared in 2020, 2021, and 2023. - Shearonink (talk) 13:59, 17 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Shearonink: Bath School disaster was featured on May 18, 2025, May 18, 2024, and May 18, 2022 (i.e. consecutive years). I don't know what you mean that it hasn't been featured since 2020, but it will be featured the next year, either at OTD or TFA. Tbhotch (CC BY-SA 4.0) 18:19, 17 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Mercado del Carmen (disambiguation)

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mercado del Carmen (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is:

  • a disambiguation page with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" which lists only one extant Wikipedia page (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • a disambiguation page that lists zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" whose target is neither a disambiguation page nor page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 11:55, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions for new OTD entries

[edit]

Hi there,

In addition to working and polishing a few entertainment and sports lists, I have started to add new entries for dates to be included in WP:OTD. I added Uvalde school shooting for May 24, Surfside condominium collapse for June 24, and Parkland high school shooting for February 14. I was planning to add Artemis II for April 6 because it was the date when the mission's astronauts broke the record for the farthest distance from earth, but I'm not sure how to properly phrase the blurb. Also was planning to do Halle Berry's historic win at the 74th Academy Awards for March 24, and the Chris Rock–Will Smith slapping incident at the 94th Academy Awards for March 27. What do you think?

--Birdienest81talk 03:16, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Birdienest81: Thank you so much for the additions, it helps to have modern alternatives and entertainment entries, both commonly ommited. The Oscar ones are appropriate, just remember they need to be listed in the corresponding calendar date articles. For Artemis, something like "During the Artemis II mission, the Orion made its closest approach to the far side of the Moon and reached its greatest distance from Earth." can work. Good article nominations RfC

[edit]

Hi Tbhotch,

There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.

By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.

Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:03, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
