Many stub articles I see in my field (astrophysics) could be improved by including basic trigonometric calculations and galactic coordinate mapping to quantify the distance between various objects. However, I am not sure how to cite these changes properly as while they are very easily verifiable by anyone with a calculator they are not able to be cited from an academic article, as scientific research on some of these celestial objects is nil. Search the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED) or the SIMBAD astronomical database, which are well-regarded sources for astronomical data.

You can suggest the addition on the talk page, explain the calculation, and ask if any other editors know of a source that confirms the data. This might prompt a more experienced editor to find a suitable source or agree that the information is currently unsourceable.

@ImJustACoolPerson I know it might seem a word related to women should be feminine but it's not a rule and Romance languages often but not always conform. In French, for example:

• people (les gens, le peuple) is masculine but person (la/une personne) is feminine even if you're talking about a man;
• pandemic is feminine (la pandémie) but there was a bit of debate about whether covid should be masculine or feminine but masculine won out (le Covid)
• the state of Victoria in Australia is le Victoria, even though it's named for the queen, rather than la Victoria because state (l'etat) is masculine.

Hey Spbvj! I wanted some advice on two specific kinds of Wiki editing. The first is on revising language to be more objective/aligned with NPOV. There have been some articles where I can clearly see that the writer uses biased or heavily opinionated language, but I do not know enough about the topic to replace what is removed from that section. One article I edited was on a soccer player, and a specific section was completely filled with the writer's opinions on this player's skills and best traits as an athlete. Of course this kind of writing needs to be trimmed, but what is a good way to maybe add something better so it's not left as empty?

My second question is on adding references. What have you found to be the best way to quickly find references to add and to tie them into the article? As with the first question, I find it hard to know where to look or what sources to consider authoritative on the topic, outside of general practice for selecting strong sources (prioritizing scholarship over sensational news sources, e.g.). How do you usually approach this kind of Wikipedia editing?

I've been mostly sticking to the easy/minor edits as I get my bearings. I plan to move to adding Spanish translations for articles in the near future, but my level of fluency is not quite at the level where I'm comfortable with idiomatic or other figurative expressions and ensuring some samples of Spanish text are aligned with Wikipedian standards.
