re: June 2026

[edit]

Hi Peaceray,

Neat93867 here. If you look closer, I believe you will see that there weren't any removals. For the most part, I edited the citations for readability.

During the past year a few new citations had been added in compact form, which is difficult to read, so I expanded them, justified the equals signs and pipe characters, adjusts a few newlines: that sort of thing.

My intention was to perform some maintenance on the existing page.

...I've just read through (twice) all of my commits from that day, 14 June. Here's a list of the content changes that I saw during this review:

1) '| author = Mastering Linux Shell Scripting, by Andrew Mallett'

- removed book name

2) 'Piping syntax, A | B, for example, would also initialize a subshell:'

- changed to: 'Piping syntax, A | B, would initialize multiple subshells, one for each separate command in the pipeline:'

3) 'A name is a kind of a word separate from reserved words. Names consist solely of letters, underscores and numbers; which begins with either a letter or an underscore; which, however, may not begin with a number.'

- changed to: 'A name is a kind of a word separate from reserved words. Names (A) consist solely of letters, underscores and numbers, (B) begin with either a letter or an underscore, and (C) may not begin with a number.'

4) 'Names also called identifiers, may be used for naming variables and functions.'

- changed to: 'Also called identifiers, names may be used for naming variables and functions.'

The book parameters 'location' and 'edition' were moved into alphabetical order with the rest of the citation; they weren't removed. Was there some other removal you're concerned about?

If I don't hear back from you in a week or two, I'd like to start this process again of cleaning up the citations. I'll make the commits much smaller, so they'll be easier to review.

Also, my previous handle was Blush30720. Neat93867 (talk) 01:27, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

(this post was edited for formatting)

@Neat93867: You have not responded to my edit summary & my message to you that read Neat93867, please refrain from removing valid book parameters such as location (or publication-place) or edition. Perhaps I was rushed & & in my haste threw out the baby with the bathwater. Normally I would have manually restored the parameters that you removed. But I will note that you failed to explain in your edit summary why you removed the location & edition. You are free to restore all the edits you made as long as you leave valid book parameters intact. Peaceray (talk) 04:05, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Peaceray: Okay, thanks for getting back to me, Peaceray, aand thanks. I'll try to be more careful. :-) Neat93867 01:08, 24 June 2026, (UTC)

edit on I Love Boosters infobox

[edit]

Why did you remove the actual producers from the list on the info box? The cited source (as well as others) that is incorectly put next to "Annapurna Pictures" shows that Neon and Waypoint funded and produced this movie. It says that Annapurna is just one of the executive producers, not the production studio, nor the production company. DavidSiqueiros1917 (talk) 19:12, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@DavidSiqueiros1917: Sorry, I do not know what you are referring to. My edit was to remove the second wikilink to Boots Riley in the writer parameter as per MOS:OVERLINK as there was already a wikilink to that article in the director parameter in the line directly above. We do not need duplicate links. Peaceray (talk) 19:26, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Do not harass users

[edit]

as you did with a user earlier this month. Users are allowed to blank their talk pages. You do not have the right to unilaterally overrule that. ~2026-42124-95 (talk) 19:44, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi ~2026-42124-95! You seem to have some misunderstandings about English Wikipedia's policies & guidelines.
  1. WP:BLANKING does state: Policy does not prohibit users, whether registered or unregistered, from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred. If a user removes material from their talk page, it is normally taken to mean that the user has read and is aware of its contents. The page to which you are referring seem to be User talk:~2026-24158-46. One can see from the history at User talk:~2026-24158-46 that I have not reverted any blanking by User talk:~2026-24158-46 (talk · contribs).
  2. WP:BLANKING does not prohibit the addition of any subsequent comments.
  3. Wikipedia:User pages § What may I have in my user pages? notes that User pages are also used for administrative purposes, to make users aware of blocks, warnings, or other sanctions if they happen, and to notify of matters that may affect articles you have worked on or editorial issues you have been involved with. Please note that I am an administrator.
  4. ~2026-42124-95 seems to miscontrue my warnings as harassment. Wikipedia:WikiProject User warnings § Introduction states that User talk templates are placed on users' talk pages to advise a user against actions that disrupt Wikipedia, to advise editors of common mistakes, or to place a standard boilerplate note at the top of a page. They are designed to convey a standardized message. The purpose of user warnings is to guide good-faith testers and dissuade bad-faith vandals or editors engaging in disruptive editing.
Again, I have not reverted any blanking on User talk:~2026-24158-46, & warnings are a mechanism to communicate & educate about Wikipedia policies & guidelines. Peaceray (talk) 20:58, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Remove your

[edit]

harassment from my page ~2026-42402-89 (talk) 20:03, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Noting that ~2026-42402-89 & ~2026-42124-95 (see comment immediately above) are editing from the same IP address, which I can see as an administrator.
Apparently ~2026-42402-89 is referring to User talk:~2026-24158-46. I believe ~2026-24158-46 & ~2026-42124-95 (& thus ~2026-42402-89) to be the same editor, because with this edit ~2026-42124-95 has changed me from the comment they made in the previous edit to user. However, this is my conjecture, & cannot be proved as ~2026-24158-46 comes from a different IP address than the other two temporary accounts.
The purpose of warnings is to communicate & educate. I find charges that they are harasement to be unconvincing. I believe such charges of harassment from these accounts to be attempts to deflect from ~2026-24158-46's inappropriate editing behavior. Peaceray (talk) 21:18, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Admiral versus Admiral Overseas Corp edit summary

[edit]

Zenith is mentioned in Admiral (electrical appliances) but not in AOC International

yes and thats a shame. by 1995, the period referred to in the Zenith article, Admiral (electrical appliances) was not manufacturing electronics, those items had gone overseas to Admiral Overseas Corp. i had hoped to rewrite that paragraph after digging through all these trade rags and correct the wording on who rebadged who. anyways its not my encyclopedia-like thing its yours so i leave it to you. :^) ~2026-40922-77 (talk) 00:20, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Just because you are unwilling to add the citations to support the statements that you want to change does not mean that I am willing to pick up your work.
  • Inserting what you know without supporting it with citations is what is called original research.
  • English Wikipedia requires that verifiability so that people can check that facts or claims supported by reliable sources.
  • As the verifiability, not truth essay states in a nutshell, Any material added to Wikipedia must have been published previously by a reliable source. Editors may not add content solely because they believe it is true, nor delete content they believe to be untrue, unless they have verified beforehand with a reliable source.
I encourage you yourself to make the changes. If you have been digging through all these trade rags, you are in a far better position to know which citations to add than I am, particularly considering how my bandwidth is constrained by my contributions to this & other Wikimedia projects.
