New Page Patrol Newsletter - May 2026

[edit]

Hello Jolielover,

New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026

Backlog update

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.

Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

BoyTheKingCanDance, Rosiestep, SunDawn, and Vanderwaalforces were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

January–February backlog drive

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

May backlog drive

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026.

PageTriage

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.

Regarding Rathindra Bose

[edit]

Draft: Rathindra Bose is already there for AfC. Kindly consider this, thank you and happy editing. Rasel ‍Hasan Talk 17:52, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for letting me know, I was unaware. As I do not have advanced page mover permissions, I cannot move that AfC to mainspace, over the current article. I think you will either have to ask someone else, or paste the Draft into the mainspace article. Sorry for this. jolielover♥talk 18:08, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Training minutes

[edit]

Hello Jolielover, i am trying to upload minutes on our project page and was wondering why the subpage was red yet i had created the page. That's why i deleted and said unreflected page. I am still checking where i may have gone wrong. So please don't delete the page, i am correcting the mess immediately

Wikedits2024 (talk) 06:35, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I've removed the CSD notice. jolielover♥talk 06:36, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you jolielover. I have corrected the issue Wikedits2024 (talk) 06:51, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I've re-added the CSD notice to the mainspace page. Thanks for the clarity. jolielover♥talk 06:53, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Why re-add Jolie? The mainspace page is correct please. I was creating the minutes page then add the page on the main project page. Was adding that minutes page to this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Kenyan Circle of Concerned African Women - Wikipedia Wikedits2024 (talk) 06:58, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, I'm not really sure what's going on here? I don't think the mainspace page is right, but anyway, I've removed the CSD tag and will let someone else determine the outcome. jolielover♥talk 07:01, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you jolielover Wikedits2024 (talk) 07:04, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Wikedits2024, essentially, what you did was create an article page called WikiProject Kenyan Circle of Concerned African Women/Minutes/May 19, 2026. Since this is not an article page, but an internal wikiproject page, that title was incorrect. Another administrator moved the page to User:Wikedits2024/WikiProject Kenyan Circle of Concerned African Women/Minutes/May 19, 2026, where that subpage is now.
You may have been looking for Wikipedia:WikiProject Kenyan Circle of Concerned African Women/Minutes/May 19, 2026 instead. Epicgenius (talk) 13:44, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Epicgenius Wikedits2024 (talk) 16:56, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ideally, as at now everything is in place so i don't think there is need to add the tag. I started by creating the page then go to project page and add the page. I am not sure if i am making sense. But i request that you remove the tag because everything is in place now Jolielover Wikedits2024 (talk) 07:00, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Qojin

[edit]

On 6 June 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Qojin, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Genghis Khan's daughter Qojin got married at 23, older than usual for a Mongol woman? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Qojin. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Qojin), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

New page patroller?

[edit]

I see from the topics above that you are a NPP. I am curious, did you mark reviewed the Diane Musho Hamilton article? If so, thank you. I've been an editor for 21 years but when I look at this talk page I am feeling like a massive under performer. I created another new article recently, Abdul Shamji. I can't tell if that one has been reviewed. That's been up a couple of weeks. Utahredrock (talk) 00:56, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there - I actually didn't, sorry! And it hasn't been patrolled yet. I like doing little 'fixes' to article (e.g. adding categories, copyediting), and that's what I did with that one. I don't always necessarily patrol such articles. And don't worry about being an 'underperformer' - you're here and that's all that matters, thanks for contributing such articles to Wikipedia! As for Abdul Shamji - no, it is not patrolled yet. Unfortunately, there is a very large backlog in the new pages feed. I'll have a proper look at sources of both articles sometime today, if you'd like. jolielover♥talk 04:48, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
That would be great. Just curious . . . how can I tell if something has been patrolled/reviewed? Utahredrock (talk) 17:34, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Go to the page history, click 'view logs for this page', and check 'review log' jolielover♥talk 15:54, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thx. I checked both pages and it looks like they haven't been reviewed yet. Appreciate the reply. Utahredrock (talk) 15:59, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Forgot to update, but I did patrol Shamji's article. You should have received a notice when I did, which is another way of knowing if your article is patrolled. jolielover♥talk 19:43, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Drac0r3g (07:13, 27 June 2026)

[edit]

Hi! I was wondering if it would be possible for me to create a page on the actor Oscar Morgan? He already has one written about him briefly in German.

Also, in the past I have made edits on here anonymously and I was curious if I would be able to list and credit them as contributions tied to this account. --Drac0r3g (talk) 07:13, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! Each language-edition of Wikipedia has different criterias for pages, and so an article existing on another language-edition does not necessarily mean it can have one here. On the English Wikipedia, articles must meet our general notability criteria. To put it briefly, Oscar Morgan must have significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources, to have a page here. The sources can be of any language. If you believe he does meet the criteria, then yes, be bold and create the page yourself! And yes, you can attribute edits made while logged out to this account - see WP:LOUT for more information. jolielover♥talk 07:21, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Topic ban?

[edit]

I personally think Deacon Vorbis should be topic-banned from edit requests. Do you think this is worth pursuing? ~2026-32492-01 (talk) 17:41, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

If you want, you can bring this up on WP:ANI. Editors will reach a consensus on what to do. jolielover♥talk 17:45, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hmm maybe. I've seen first hand, though, that that particular page is filled with power-users who like to back each other up no matter what. I've had to start tagging recent editors on my edit requests for the sake of visibility since Deacon is making sure they're not in the list of active requests. Might be best to wait and let him hang himself with his continued disruptive editing ~2026-32492-01 (talk) 17:49, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think you should just go to ANI and let it move on from there, instead of pinging editors. It seems like there is edit-warring involved, Deacon is accusing you of personal attacks, Deacon is calling your edits 'needless churn', etc. All in all, needs to go to a noticeboard as interactions between the two of you evidently aren't going well. jolielover♥talk 17:55, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Addition of unambiguous copyvio at We Are Charlie Kirk

[edit]

Hi Jolielover, I see that you recently added a song, in its entirety, with a credited songwriter, to an article about the song.

WP:COPYVIO says we should not do that. Mikewem (talk) 12:19, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I was not the original person to add it. If you think the song is a copyright violation, please make a deletion request on commons, which will determine if it is or not; then it can be removed from the page. It was actually 'media of the day' back in January, so I personally doubt it is a copyvio. As stated in the licensing section, as an AI-generated work, it is in the public domain. jolielover♥talk 13:26, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Editors are responsible for their edits. The song is an unambiguous copyvio, and it is on the page because you added it. Mikewem (talk) 15:36, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, so tag it for deletion? jolielover♥talk 15:49, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Don’t know how. And not needed because WP:NFCC 3b applies to usage on Wikipedia pages, not to Commons procedures. If Commons hosts an acceptably short file, then it can be added. But the entire song is the wrong file for this page, and it is an unambiguous copyvio to add that file to this page per 3b. Mikewem (talk) 17:10, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
The file itself is in public domain. Non-free criteria does not apply to it, it can be on however many pages it wants. See c:File:We Are Charlie Kirk - SPALEXMA.wav. It was kept in February after a deletion discussion. If you can't prove it's copyvio, there's no reason for it to not be on the page. If you want to make a deletion request, see c:Commons:Deletion requests. Like I said, last discussion was just in February, unlikely circumstances have changed much since then. jolielover♥talk 17:16, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
The file is not in the public domain, SP Music Project owns the copyright. NFCC applies.
Back in February, the song was credited solely to Spalexma. Then, the song was taken down from streaming services. Now the song is back up, with a new line that credits Sargis Poghosyan as composer, lyricist and songwriter. It’s copyvio. Mikewem (talk) 20:15, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, if you think this is the case, nominate it for deletion jolielover♥talk 01:57, 30 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

WikiCup 2026 July newsletter

[edit]

The third round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 June at 23:59 (UTC). As a reminder, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, while peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 3 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; eight scored over 500; and thirteen scored over 300. The top three contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

  • MCE89 (submissions) with 1567 points, mainly from good and featured articles about Australian people and geography, as well as some article reviews
  • Ohio Bgsu98 (submissions) with 1547 points, mainly from good articles, featured articles, featured lists, and a good topic about figure skating, along with 20 article reviews
  • Reconrabbit (submissions) with 1004 points, mainly from a high-multiplier featured article on European rabbit and several good articles, DYKs, and reviews
  • A.Cython (submissions) with 1004 points, mainly from good articles about warfare, along with 22 article reviews
  • Generalissima (submissions) with 859 points, mainly from good and featured articles about rivers and East Asian topics

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 7 featured-topic articles, 117 good articles, 74 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 13 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 180 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from RLRuff (22:48, 5 July 2026)

[edit]

Hi Jolielover, I've never edited an article and don't imagine I'll do it again, but I noticed that audiobook narrator/actor Ray Porter's page doesn't include two audiobooks that I've heard him narrate on Audible. Can you please recommend the Help sections I should read to do this? I am very familiar with using Word and I thought the first thing I'd do would be to add lines to the Audiobooks table in his article and enter the books' titles, add the dates and cite to the audiobooks' internet address from Audible's site. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about adding something to a preexisting list or table. Hopefully you can help me because if it's too hard to learn how to edit, I may just shine it on. Thanks, Ronda --RLRuff (talk) 22:48, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there - you have to click 'edit', and in source editor, follow the format already in place. In this case, it would look like:
|[Year]
|[Name of book]
|[Which characters]
|[Extra notes, if applicable; you can put the citation here]
With a '|- ' between each new entry. Can you let me know which entries are missing? I could try to add them myself. jolielover♥talk 07:33, 6 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! This regards Ray Porter, an actor and audiobook narrator. He narrated two audiobooks that aren't included on his Wikipedia page. Audible Studios is the publisher of both audiobooks. Thanks again for offering to add this info to Ray Porter's "Audiobook" section.

Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello Jolielover:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Ariesboi (12:02, 19 July 2026)

[edit]

Good day Mentor, I have a page I was writing on before my account was deleted tho there is no reliable source for the page but I made it draft so I can be updating it and also find a legit source the my account was deleted so I was thinking I should know the reason why it's happening --Ariesboi (talk) 12:02, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! If you were writing on a temporary account, then yes, unfortunately they expire 90 days after creation and you will no longer be able to make edits on it. Now that you're on your own account, your account won't expire. Wikipedia accounts cannot be 'deleted', though. If you are talking about a prior named account, deletion certainly isn't the reason you do not have access to it anymore.
In any case, you can continue editing your draft on this account, unless the draft was also deleted - they are if they have received no edits for 6 months (see WP:OLDDRAFT). If this is the case, you can request undeletion to continue working on it at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Abandoned pages. Hope this helps! jolielover♥talk 14:38, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from CpaPressGuy (02:37, 2 August 2026)

[edit]

Hello.. i made a few edits to the Don Huffines page (i am the spokesperson at the Texas Comptroller's office). I removed "acting" from his title. He was named as the actual Comptroller. I tried adding the news article from the comptroller's office that we put out today, but was unsucessful.. the link is - https://comptroller.texas.gov/about/media-center/news/20260801-don-huffines-sworn-in-as-texas-comptroller-refuses-salary-calls-for-property-tax-relief-1785512488796 any help you can provide would be appreciated. --CpaPressGuy (talk) 02:37, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! Sorry for the delay. Can you let me know where exactly you want to remove 'acting'? I am assuming you meant the infobox, in which case, it was removed by a temporary account. I don't see anything else on the page implying he is acting. jolielover♥talk 13:56, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

DCWC August update

[edit]

The 2026 Developing Countries WikiContest has been running for a month now, so let's check in with the competition so far!

As of the time of writing, our top contestants are:

  1. Nigeria Vanderwaalforces (submissions) ahead of the pack with 715 points, with two FAs and many GAs on the monarchs of the Kingdom of Benin;
  2. Simongraham (submissions) with 291 points, mostly with GAs on jumping spiders, alongside various GAN and FAC reviews;
  3. Jaguarnik (submissions) with 240 points, mostly from an FA on the 1945 film Ivan the Terrible;
  4. Grnrchst (submissions) with 215 points, mostly from GAs on anarchist history in various countries, alongside many GA reviews, and;
  5. Vestrian24Bio (submissions) tied for 4th with 215 points, with an FL and four GAs on Indian cricket!

These competitors are in the lead, but if past experience is any indication, big shake-ups might still await us in the contest. If you're looking for a way to boost your position, we got a table of review requests from fellow participants—you can rack up a lot of points through reviews, and it might just convince others to review your own nominations! You can also look through the eligible reviews page to find other articles to review, with highlights for articles eligible for the 1.5× multiplier. The coordinators would like to thank Jaguarnik (submissions) for his work to keep this page up to date.

Thank you so much for all your work in the contest so far, dear participants, and keep on the good fight against systemic bias on our wiki! Have any questions? Good article nominations RfC

[edit]

Hi Jolielover,

There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.

By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.

Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:02, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
