Copyvios API now requires login?
[edit]Hi, I'm the operator of Sapper-bot on the Hebrew Wikipedia. Among other tasks, the bot detects potential copyright violations using the Copyvios API (source code, Copyvios integration code, bot page on the Hebrew Wikipedia). The bot runs twice a day to check newly created pages and twice a day to check new pages and large edits.
Since 06:00 UTC on 28 July, calls to the Copyvios API have returned the HTML of the login page instead of a JSON response. Is this a bug, a new authentication requirement, or something else?
Thank you very much for maintaining this excellent service. It makes an important contribution to the Hebrew Wikipedia and is extremely useful for our copyright-review work.

- Hi החבלן, sorry about that. I set up a stricter auth check because we were having some issues with crawlers, but it wasn't supposed to affect the API. I've adjusted the check and your bot should be able to continue running now. — The Earwig (talk) 03:20, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
