Abrahamic religions thumbnail
[edit]Hello DankJae, I saw that you changed the format here because symbols of non-Abrahamic religions were showing up in the thumbnail, which is obviously incorrect and not what we’re going for. I know almost nothing about image formatting, I don’t know what caused it or how to fix it, but the new thumbnail is cropped to show just the cross, which I would think is not what we’re going for either. Is there a way to make the uncropped row of three symbols appear in the thumbnail? Mikewem (talk) 23:23, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Mikewem, made a more square image for it, seem to work in the thumbnail now (refresh your cache). MW:Extension:PageImages does prefer more square or rectangular images, which is why it chose the more square religion sidebar picture over the previous vertical one, although it can be overriden with a "class" parameter. DankJae 00:31, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
- Looks great!
- I really appreciate your work on this and your explanation of the technical stuff Mikewem (talk) 00:40, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
Welsh Not Reversal of edits
[edit]Why have you removed my Verifiable sources query? Surely that should remain while the discussion is ongoing? Welsh-boi1 (talk) 20:48, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Welsh-boi1, Llewee stated in their edit summary that it is from "jones, Gareth Elwyn (2000). "15 The Welsh Language and the Blue Books of 1847"", but if that source does not state those things then be free to re-add the template or {{failed verification}}. Other edits that have been disputed, please discuss them first, you may have a case. Hope any issues can be resolved on such an important topic.
- Diolch DankJae 20:58, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks. The source doesn't mention anything on the pages given regarding teaching in English being "generally supported" or anything on it being considered "the language of economic advancement" (I must admit to not having read the whole book). I have asked Llewee for more clarity/explanation on the Article's talkpage, but I'll add back the Verifiable Template. Welsh-boi1 (talk) 21:04, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
Cadw names
[edit]Hey Jae! I've got Dolwyddelan and Criccieth on my watchlist, so I've noticed the changes you've made. I think it's fine to mention what Cadw has done, but reckon it can be simplified to something like 'Since 2024, Cadw have used the name "[Name]" in both English and Welsh'. They've not so much renamed the castles and other sites as simply switched to using Welsh names exclusively in some cases.
In general, I'd also say Cadw's position on names isn't notable enough for the lead. Often it's one name variation among several a site has had over the centuries. A.D.Hope (talk) 11:35, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- @A.D.Hope, well they have technically re-named what it is in English, they changed the English name, but open to other wording. Maybe "Since 2024, Cadw uses the Welsh name [name] in English"?
- If Cadw is the only one managing and owning the building, and that in effect they have renamed it in English (just as with Eryri and Bannau), like every other rename, they are usually mentioned in the lead? Didn't add to leads to buildings that Cadw aren't solely responsible for, for example those privately owned or National Trust. DankJae 11:47, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- With the national parks we've been quite careful to state that their park authorities have chosen to use their Welsh names only, rather than renaming the areas they manage, and it's similar with Cadw. It's choosing to use Castell Cricieth rather than Criccieth Castle, but it's not renamed it in general. Others can still use either name.
- Whether or not to mention the change in the lead is ultimately a question of prominence, and I'm just not sure how prominent this is. The better castle leads generally give a brief architectural history, a general history, and the usual basic location, ownership, and access information. Cadw naming policy doesn't fit easily into that.
- As a side note, the source you've used doesn't give Cadw's reasoning, that I can see. It supports that it uses those names, but not the reason why. A.D.Hope (talk) 11:59, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- For the sites Cadw manage, and is solely responsible for what is physically on the building, surely seems as much as a rename as the national parks did, just like with any other rename it'll will take time until all the signs are replaced. Cadw is therefore the official body for the castle, so don't see why it shouldn't be mentioned, but happy for it to be trimmed shorter.
- Trying to find a source that explains it more, but the heading does mention "standardising" so referenced that, in line with all the other standardising efforts. Cannot find Cadw's magazine online that Sirfurboy referenced, unless we use the quote they gave. DankJae 12:11, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm fine for it to be mentioned, it's more about where. As it currently stands, I think a body mention is appropriate unless there's a specific reason to bring up a castle's name in the lead. Caernarfon Castle doesn't mention in the lead that the place was previously called Carnarvon Castle and Caernarvon Castle, in line with the settlement, and this is broadly similar.
- I don't think Cadw magazine is published online, so unless Sirfurboy still has that copy we might be a bit stuck. A.D.Hope (talk) 12:23, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Still dropping Castle for Castell is a bigger change than changing the spelling to match the place, as it is specific to the castle itself. For some of the long leads I did only tag it at the end of a sentence when it mentions Cadw.
- I'll try and shorten it further. DankJae 12:31, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well I suppose that's the thing, 'castle' hasn't been dropped per se because it's still being used for all these sites, just not by Cadw. Maybe we should have a discussion over at the Wales project? A.D.Hope (talk) 12:38, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Castle as in the proper name, obviously it is still a “castle”. DankJae 12:43, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Let's open a Wales discussion and just see what the others think. I can't see anyone objecting to mentioning the change at all, but you don't need to figure out the wording alone A.D.Hope (talk) 13:07, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- @A.D.Hope, I've decided to reduce it to a footnote? That okay? DankJae 13:11, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- see Bronllys Castle as an example DankJae 13:11, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, I've no issues with that. I'm certainly not saying you have to run it past me, though A.D.Hope (talk) 13:14, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Just not in the mood for a long discussion again. In the end, as with the previous one, it was more of a dispute between us, so if we can compromise now, saves all the hassle. DankJae 13:16, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- No worries. I'm going to step away from it a bit now, but I can't see this being a massive issue. A.D.Hope (talk) 13:27, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

[edit]
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to GY postcode area when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.
Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:49, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Zackmann08, I added it to the template though, that's why it worked? The template does not have extensive documentation to begin with. If there is some little thing I missed I apologise, but surely that would be more constructive than mass reverting and warning me. Otherwise, I'll look in removing the infobox. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Moneypenny logo.png
[edit]
A tag has been placed on File:Moneypenny logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
