I've added the ref for the Isle of Mull Cycling Club that you had attempted. Don't give up, you can figure it out ... don't let the jargon keep you down. :) --Vsmith (talk) 00:28, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
"Weird formatting": not
[edit]@Clydiee the "| " at the end of the category which you removed as "weird formatting" was not weird. Any category added to an article can specify a particular sort key (eg Icelandic names sort one way in Icelandic categories and another in general cats), by adding ther "|" and then the sort key. Giving a sort key of " ", a space, forces it to sort first. And it makes sense for the article "Isle of Mull" to sort at the top of the category "Isle of Mull". I hope that makes sense. I undid your edit. In general, if you don't understand what a bit of code is doing, it's often best to ask someone rather than just remove it. PamD 19:01, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 6
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of sounds of Scotland, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mull. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Stirling
[edit]The MOS doesn't say the pronunciation should be hidden and the foreign equivalent should be in parentheses, which it is. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:37, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- i understand your interpretation but it does say
- "When the subject is closely associated with more than one non-English language, the lead sentence should normally not single out one of them. In such cases, all non-English equivalents should be placed together in a single explanatory footnote"
- i do think that stirling is a hard to argue example of multiple non-english languages being relevant Clydiee (talk) 15:50, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- Doesn't address the problem of the pronunciation being hidden. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 16:28, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- the pronunciation is not being "hidden", it is being put in a footnote, something that MOS:LEADPRON suggests:
- "using either parentheses or a footnote"
- MOS:LEADPRON and MOS:FOREIGNEQUIV both suggest putting the respective extra naming context they deal with in a footnote if it would otherwise be too messy of a first line, i don't see why only we would put only the non-english names in a footnote when this applies to both of them. basically every page with a native english pronunciation takes this approach too, including ones that would not even be that messy even without a footnote: including: London, New Delhi, Chicago, Dublin, Sydney, Auckland, Singapore, and so on...
- MOS:LEADPRON also suggests that if a pronunciation is intuitive then it doesn't need to be added at all, although i am scottish so it's easy for me to assume it's easy, and i am in favour of the pronunciation being at the start either way, i just think it should be in a footnote Clydiee (talk) 19:38, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Lifeboat station maps
[edit]Hi @Clydiee
Just wanted to say, thanks for the more detailed map additions. Something I was struggling to find.
I don't want to go changing what you've done, so can I say, I much prefer when you include both maps. Lifeboats cover a big area, so its nice to have some context of that area. Is that OK?
Martin Ojsyork (talk) 15:49, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
- hello @Ojsyork,
- i appreciate you pointing this out! i do remember the first one i edited (i think Leverburgh) this thought did pop into my head but clearly it must have left it as quick as it came. i haven't got many islands left at this point but if you don't do it yourself i'll go back and add the wider maps to the lifeboat stations Clydiee (talk) 16:23, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Uynarey when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.
