Akon City is a futuristic Pan-African smart city city project launched by Akon a US-Senegalese rapper, R&B singer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. Akon's birth name is Aliaune Thiam. Akon City will be built in Senegal 62 miles from Dakar, the capital of Senegal. The project was first announced by Akon along with the Senegal minister for tourism Alioune Sarrin 2018. It will be located in the coastal village in Mbodiène on 800-hectare (2,000 acres) of land. The project smart city is planned to have large skyscrapers, shopping malls, tech hub, music studios, "Senewood", and eco-friendly tourist resorts. Akon envisions "Akoin", a cryptocurrency which he founded to be the central currency. [1][2]. [3] [4] [5][6]

Project Design
[edit]Akon City's development is projected to be a ten year project a mixed use development. The Akon 'smart city' a 2,000 acre project. Slated to be eco-friendly with renewable energy and solar energy. It is a LEED-certified project. The projected city welcomes all members of the African diaspora as a home away from home. The project's goal is to stimulate local economy, and create jobs for local workers. [7] [8] Akon City developers are Los Angeles-based KE International, and Dubai-based Bakri & Associates Development Consultants. Hussein Bakri the CEO of Bakri & Associates is the lead architect. Phase 1 - is expected to be completed by 2023. Which will be the construction of roads, Hamptons Hospital campus, Hamptons Mall, residents, hotels, a police station, a school, a waste facility, parks, and a photovoltaic solar power plant.
Phase 2 - 2024 to 2029, with plans for complete usage of cryptocurrency using AKOIN cryptocurrency. [11]
Project Announcements
[edit]January 15 of 2020, Akon announced plans for his new city "Akon City".
In September of 2020, Akon unveiled the rendering of his project 'Akon City'. A 2,000 acres planned development a futuristic city along the Atlantic coast. It is 62 miles south of Dakar in Senegal. The 'Akon City' project is supported by Senegalese President Macky Sall. The planned city will feature condominiums, offices, parks, a university, an ocean resort, and a 5,000 bed hospital.
Akon City is designated as a “special tax zone” by the Senegalese government.

Inspiration
[edit]Akon refers to 'Akon City' as a 'real-life Wakanda', and that he was inspired by the Black Panther (film). A real-life Wakanda that uses the latest technologies of blockchain and cryptocurrency.[12]
