"To Be a Somebody" is the first serial in the second series of the British crime drama series Cracker. It was first broadcast in three parts, from the 10th of October to the 24th of October 1994 on ITV.[1][2][3] All three parts of the serial were written by the series' principal writer, Jimmy McGovern, and directed by Tim Fywell.[1][2][3]
The serial follows Hillsborough disaster survivor Albert "Albie" Kinsella Jr. (Robert Carlyle), who responds to his trauma, his divorce and the death of his father by embarking on a killing spree in Manchester. Cracker's protagonist, Edward 'Fitz' Fitzgerald, investigates the killings, discovering that the murderer is targeting people and institutions linked to the Hillsborough disaster.[1][2][3]
Plot
[edit]Reeling from the death of his father, struggling to process the trauma from surviving the Hillsborough disaster and left depressed following his divorce, welder Albert "Albie" Kinsella Jr. shaves his head and murders a Pakistani shopkeeper. As Kinsella continues his killing spree, Fitz Fitzgerald discovers that the murderer is targeting people and institutions linked to the Hillsborough disaster.
