List of Super Heavy Boosters Divide

[edit]

I have created a draft for the List of Super Heavy boosters article. Redacted II (talk) 21:59, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sound

[edit]

Should there be a description of the sound generated during launch and landing (especially the sonic boom)? Redacted II (talk) 03:57, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

No. Describing a "sound" which is different to any location is senseless and does not improve the article in any way. 80.187.75.118 (talk) 21:43, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The sound produced by Super Heavy is notable enough to warrant a NSF article.
Intensity of the sound can be mentioned. For example (this is a rough draft of an edit. There will be errors. All information is sourced from linked article):
Super Heavy generates large amounts of noise on both ascent and descent, with liftoff being nearly nearly six times louder than a launch of the Space Launch System. The sonic boom generated during descent is 110 dB as measured from twenty km, 20 dB louder than the Falcon 9. During Starship's fifth flight test, the sonic booms from the descent of the Super Heavy booster set off multiple car alarms over ten km from the launch site. On a somewhat related note, I can't seem to find an article specifically about rocket noises on Wikipedia.
Maybe it's time to start grabbing info on how supersonic jets generate shockwaves via boundary instabilities? Stoplookin9 Hey there! Send me a message! 01:24, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll try to start hammering out a draft tomorrow. Redacted II (talk) 03:53, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
On further thought: isn't that at least somewhat covered by Shock Diamond? Redacted II (talk) 19:57, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
CNN Report on the noise.
This is quite notable Redacted II (talk) 13:50, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Grid Fins

[edit]

Please list the dimensions of the grid fins. How long, how wide? This will give the reader an idea of how it compares with the size of a person. It will also help the reader understand how big the entire booster is, after knowing how big the tiny looking grid fin is.  Preceding unsigned comment added by GoodExplainer (talkcontribs) 01:31, 13 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

As soon as I find a reliable source, I'll add it.
(Height of the vehicle is very well reported) Redacted II (talk) 04:07, 13 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Indeed the height of this vehicle may be hard for some to relate to. The grid fins, presumably much closer to people size would be helpful ~2026-19580-49 (talk) 03:37, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
What is diameter? 25-30’ish? So maybe 10’wide by 15-20’ tall? ~2026-19580-49 (talk) 03:41, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sadly including the size would either require "unreliable" sources or Original Research.
(They are about three meters wide IIRC) Redacted II (talk) 15:47, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Flight 13 booster failure

[edit]

pretty sure booster failed boost back burn this time around, should be added to failed after staging I'm pretty sure. ~2026-31726-50 (talk) 04:40, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
