seems to me the set of topics that need to be combined or linked are.. (probably not in the right order)

 electronic music
   sound synthesis
     drum sound synthesis
     sequencers
     drum machines (which is essentially a drum synth plus a sequencer)
     rhythm programming

Also, lets not forgot that you can "play" midi-equipped drum machines using a keyboard (or even a windsynth!) as well as drum pads. In that sence the "drum machine" is being a "drum-synth" by not using the sequencer part. Boxes such as the Alesis D4 are "drum machines" *without* a built-in sequencer.

Comparison between Human drumming seems out of place

With my personal experience with drum machines, I do not think of them as something that is in competition with human drumming. I think about them as their own specific thing. Just like I wouldn’t compare a motorbike to a bicycle, even though they have some shared history. I first read this article 2 or three years ago and the section has stuck in my brain. I came back to this article in this comment section to bring this up. I don’t really know how to address this issue. I understand how this issue could come up. I personally think this section creates a sort of bias. That seems like an opinion done something factual. I’m not a huge wiki editor. I would appreciate other perspectives. And not making an edit here, but it doesn’t say right to me to have a section that compares it to natural drumming. Like who said I was? I’m not comparing a painted sky to the actual sky. Drum machines are an abstraction that to me has become their own unique thing. Jdk780 (talk) 21:31, 21 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
