@Thenightaway reverted a change to this page which added an example of the recent use of deterrence theory to the #History section. Deterrence is something that all states to some degree do constantly. It's undue to list individual acts of deterrence by a single state. It's also misleading to readers by giving the impression that these are the typical acts of deterrence. The content you want to add belongs in articles on that state's foreign policy or the articles for the specific conflicts. Thenightaway (talk) 15:01, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Images

I just added a four-image collage to the lead, replacing the Growler and Regulus image. I think this is useful to show the full scope of the article, including nuclear, conventional, and other deterrence. reductio ad absurdum

An editor recently claimed that a certain critique of deterrence used a reductio ad absurdum argument. The citation for this claim is not freely available and the claim is not self-explanatory. What is the proposition that is assumed? What is the logic that leads to a contraction? NPguy (talk) 20:33, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

This is too US-Centric

People have come to accept an American centric narrative in wikipedia articles (which sometimes is valid) but this article really does need to be reviewed, especially as it constantly frames others as the aggressor and the US as coming to the aid against aggression. Considering the events in the world in recent years with the US being a rule-of-law flouting power perpetuating genocide in the middle east and instigating wars and threats of territorial aggression (against Denmark/Greenland) this framing is becoming offensive for a reader. I don't wish to unilaterally edit the article, esp. since I know how much resistance that can produce. The American habit of thinking and operating on their own terms without the external context and references that is normal in other countries really needs to be kerbed here ~2026-35905-46 (talk) 22:53, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
