Legacy

Should the book about him from his daughter Cristiana Pedersoli (published in 2020 in Italian, also later edition(s), probably a good source for citations and expansion of the article) also get mentioned in Legacy?

Anonimous user removed info on his children in section Personal life on 31 October 2025 diff as not sourced and not notable, where same info was left to stay in other parts of the article (and was sourced there). I tried to revert that (and add a citation for good measure), but revert was no more possible. Returned info and added citation for good measure (overcitation? - but if requested...) Done

Some possibilities for further expansion based on this source:

• He was at home in water and learned to handle small boats from young age, but was later also a yachtsman. There are pictures of exterior and interior of a disused spartan tugboat found about 1990 at Ancona, passionately renovated and steaming well. As he learned to fly (with professional competency and licences), so he was not only a rich yachtman like many who just buy a boat as an investment and just hire the crew to steam him around, maintain the boat and stay out of sight, but one that could navigate and handle the boat competently, and - passionately - care for and plan redesign of the boat himself (which is notable to any yachtsman I know)
• The book also mentions documentary about him, created in 2016 (published in 2017, Lo chiamavano Bud Spencer, EPO-film) - he also live "stared" a bit in it, as himself, of course
• about 20 awards and/recognitions of distinction (his native Italian an foreign) from 1973 to 2012
• he was also
  • 2008 declared UNESCO World ambassador for defending human rights in
  • 2008 decorated with high order of Italian republic the same year (can't reliably translate at the moment
  • 2015 declared honorary citizen of Naples
• Also, commemorative postage-stamps with pictures of him were issued in a lot of countries, including 4 on Solomon Islands in 2016 and 10 in Germany next year

Some of those could be added to the article

I would also propose (but won't change that just yet) to exchange current infobox picture from 2016 with one from when he was at his best, possibly existing from Flatfoot from 1974 (and which would become familiar to any new fan from of his films) instead of his picture long after he retired from acting (but was still active creating music etc.). His daughter Cristiana wrote he never stopped; each project completed he (passionately) started on something else.

Well - this about showing pictures of people at old age in infobox - instead of those from time when they did what they were notable for - might be a thing to think on in general (or at least regarding most people after they passed on/died). Marjan Tomki SI (talk) 15:54, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

I'll move his 2009 picture so it'l be with the end of his acting, pubication of his autobiography and with section on his politics engagement, which are from around that time.  Done

Ill move the 1916 one to the section about his passing on. Will wait a bit before returning earlier one to the infobox (that change was from 2025)  Done

If I could get the permission, I'd like to put his and Terence Hil's picture with Christiana from her wedding, all three beaming - which would richly, more than words, confirm my changes about him being great father in personal life section. Which is IMO notable, because - as Cristiana writes, he said he was not an actor, he was personage (which beamed into his film roles), and because it is too rare with so successful people. Or maybe that from his marriage. Or pictures with his wife, or with his son in 1980. Pictures (from before photoshop and so called AI manipulations) could tell a lot.

@Sztupy: When I started changes mentioned above I already found info about Bud Spencer Square in Edinburg with at a glance not quite convincing citation "See google maps". I left it in place.

A week or so later you removed that info claiming Unverified data, reference was fake too . I returned today (because I proposed that I change picture in the lead of Italian article like I did here) - and checked, if reference is truly fake.

"AI" generated answer to search google for "Bud Spencer Square Edinburg" was that it doesn't appear to exist (and primary source was shown to be Wikipedia). I took a little time and found, that Bud Spencer Square exists at (and around) 55.97666 N and 3,25251 West. Unsophisticated ref could be verified to be true.

So I undid the removal  Done and will improve the "citation".

@User:Sztupy: Google Earth doesn't show a place with that name at those coordinates in Edinburg., but if you then enter "Bud Spencer Square" into search field, it marks the location.

The location is not visible on Google Earth, because it is in a pedestrian zone and Google's car didn't/couldn't enter.

@Lobo151: The citations I added was the newest info I could find, but the site referred also confirmed regular festivals from years before (and location varied from year to year).

I rephrased and added link where it can be verified that a lot of festivals, not only that one, are still alive.

The cited site did look as promotions, but announcement of Olympic games (that seem to still be alive) also looks as promotions, but do we have anything better to verify where it was intended to be etc. then an official website?

Does that mean it's inadmissible source? I doubt that; in a month or so I expect reports how it went instead of current announcements on webpages I cited this time, and if not yet, it will be admissible then. If you insist removing that citation, I'll wait for a month and add citations to reports of the festivals when they are published.

And it looks as promotions, even if I think it's valid. But with help of "AI" generated fake sites, used by malware creators, a serious increase of convincing real malware fakes is expected, and your critical eye and vigilance shall soon be very welcome. But I am convinced this is not yet such a fake, and discussion on such "AI" created stuff probably belongs elsewhere.

For the following possible additions I'll first propose the contents to be scrutinized at the Italian site, but maybe not today.

• He learned to swim at age 3 or four in 1933 (thrown in the water tied on a rope held by his father's mariner friend, and stayed on top, and later often said that from then he new that water was his natural habitat, not the firm land).page 42
• His father and his uncle co-owned a business (a factory of metal furniture and several shops) in Napoli, and intended Carlo and his cousin Alessandro to educate from young age to inherit it, but was also an accomplished athlete (with a vitrine of medals and cups won during his youth), and saw sports as a good way to add to education of his son. So Carlo was inscribed in Circolo Canotieri Napoli at the age of 8. There Carlo not only improved his way to swim but also learned to handle boats of different kinds from young age.
• His boat handling was later extended in South America (twice for several years), and in 1990-ies he bought a spartan tug in disuse and - with passion - wonderfully renovated it as his yacht (pictures between pages 80-81 of Bud Il gigante per papa). So he was really a personality, at home in and on water, and didn't need any acting and studying for such roles.

So he was also a yachtsman of note, and as a pilot (also seems he flew transatlantic - can't find ref at the moment - in his private Beechcraft King Air 90 - which, as recently found in archives, also served as a test-bed for Alfa Romeo turbo-prop engines)with a with professional licences (for heli and fixed-wing) and founder and owner of a successful airline business an entrepreneur of note.

• After the factory in Napoli was destroyed in allied air raid during WWII his family relocated to Rome, where - by his mother's advice: Make Carlo do things, not think about things, or he'll try to do everything that comes to his mind at the same time. - he was induced to practice sports (p.31)

He was already tall for his age and was accepted, and succesfull in several sports:

• He entered Romana Nuoto, a swimming club in Rome without swimming pool, with swimming in river Tiber when weather alowed.
• The same autumn he started to play rugby for the team of his school, it:l'Instituto del'San Gabriele, where they wanted him as in attack; a good choice as they won the nationals that year.
• When in 1948 he returned from Brasil to Rome he also boxed as a heawy weight for awhile, winning all from about ten of his matches with K.O.

• When he entered politics in 2005 his adversaries claimed him a showbiz politician, which his studies in law in his youth show as a ridiculous - but at that time successful - claim.
• The same year, in 2005, he received Caimano d'oro (Gold Caiman) award from the Italian Swimming Federation.

If somebody would like to check the citations, and use this info to expand this article before I find time, (s)he s very welcome.

sorry but hewas never so tall, he was max 1,86m, see his passport, or see photos with Johnny Weissmüller, both barefoot, being 1,9 or 1,91m. Bud is obviously smaller, or see photos with other swimmers, barefoot, beeing 2m. Bud was maximum 1,86m. Or wathch him with David Hasselhoof, yes you loose height in age and with overweight, but not 14 cm or more...
