Inclusion of game and player statistics

[edit]

Thanks to @Left guide, the article has been expanded nicely with summaries and background of the games@Left guide. However, the game and player statistics were removed from the article. As this is valuable information that is on Wikipedia for all other Final Four tournaments and major tournaments, I added it to the article. What is the consensus on the inclusion of these types of statistics? H-Hurry (talk) 15:08, 29 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@H-Hurry: Hi there, thanks for the recognition and for all of your work on the page too. For some background, the article was recently nominated to appear on the "In the news" section of the main page. My reason for having removed those tables was to get the article in a condition appropriate to post there, where consensus is that narrative prose with reliable sources is of utmost importance, and tables shouldn't be excessive. However, now that the prose has been fleshed out, I think those player stats tables are more reasonable as a supplement, and I no longer have objections to them being restored. By any chance, would you be interested in helping to get this nominated as a good article in the near future? If so, I think we're within striking distance. I understand, the quality of this article has become very high compared to other years as well, and this sets a nice standard. I nominated the article. H-Hurry (talk) 20:32, 30 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

This one's been waiting a while. Will review in short order. Jordano53 19:18, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Lead

  • No need to link to Europe
  • As someone with no knowledge of European basketball, did the acquisition/organisation of the league by Euroleague Basketball change the game? Otherwise, I'm not certain it's important to include, and indeed the more relevant factors would be how many seasons and how many Final Fours there have been.
  • When was the host city/date announcement made? Right now it reads like they announced in May 2025 that it would be in Abu Dhabi
  • "to include a third-place playoff match, as it was announced the match would be removed starting 2026"
  • Championship result is supported in prose, no need for a reference

Background

  • "marking the first time the event would take place outside of Europe in the competition's history in 21 years" for clarity
  • How exactly did Kukoč market the event? Online? In-person events? This fact feels a little thrown in and needs a bit more specs
  • Including that Turkish and Greek fans traveled, but not French fans? I find it hard to believe Monaco didn't have any turnout.
  • I say move the "Critics" paragraph to be last, as it makes more sense to share difficulties from fans and then say what critics thought with that context
  • What exactly does "maturity of the Arabian market" mean?
  • Change the start of the "Others" sentence to say "While others" or a similar statement.

Semifinals

  • Swap prose and pictures to go above templates
  • For Vezenkov, we use the word "only" to describe his stats. I recommend removing per WP:PUFFERY, or include his average statline at the time
  • Elaborate when you say "questionable decisions"

Third place game

  • Swap prose and pictures to go above templates
  • No need to link to Fans, security guard
  • Assists already linked prior (be sure to check duplicate links in general)

Championship game

  • Swap prose and pictures to go above templates
  • Images in the prose currently violate MOS:SANDWICH, consider having them side by side? Template:Multiple image
  • Why is the score box yellow compared to the white boxes?
  • Three-pointer is over linked, also common style is to hyphenate, so be sure to fix
  • Clutch already linked
  • "he did not shoot well from the field" or related distinction

References

Earwig is content, although the source checker provided by @Alaexis: has spotted some inconsistencies:

  • Reference 9 does in fact list Sáez as a journalist for El País
  • Fourth instance of reference 19 confirms you mixed up James and Diallo in the prose of Semifinal A, every other instance (templates and such), you marked it correctly
  • First instance of 21 is okay. The source misspelled his name and typically winning score is listed first.
  • Reference 22 supports part, but need a source for the Limoges bit.
  • Reference 25 is good. Machine calculated from the journal date instead of the game date.
  • Reference 32 is good, as 31 mentions the players. No issues.
  • Reference 33 okay. Again, other sources have the "missing" information the machine found
  • Third instance of reference 30 okay. Machine misread.

Additionally, however, there are a lot of references missing publication dates, access dates, and/or names of works in the citation template. Please go through and add these.

Overall, there's a decent amount of corrections to make here. Good luck and happy editing! Jordano53 04:19, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Citation verification report

[edit]

@Jordano53, I saw that you've started reviewing this article and I was wondering if you'd find the report below useful. It's been generated by the Source Verifier tool co-developed by u:Polygnotus and myself. I've checked 2 cases of "Not supported" manually (citation [9] and the fourth instance of [19]) and it seems like the tool has indeed identified minor inaccuracies.

@H-Hurry, I hope you don't mind that I've run this analysis on the article you've nominated. I hope that it will help make it better. See the note on the tool's limitations - not all the cases it flags are indeed problematic. Any feedbck would be welcome.

This is an experimental check of the article sources by Citation Verifier. Treat it with caution, be aware of its limitations and feel free to leave feedback at the talk page.
