Alexandre Prot, born 19 November 1982, is a French entrepreneur. In 2016 he co-founded Qonto, of which he has been chief executive officer (CEO) since 2016.

Biography

Alexandre Prot is the son of Baudouin Prot, former chairman of BNP Paribas.[1].

Alexandre Prot studied at HEC Paris in 2006 and at INSEAD[2]. He began his career at Goldman Sachs before moving into strategy consulting at McKinsey & Company[3]. He started out as an entrepreneur in 2013 when he and his partner Steve Anavi created Smok.io[4], which developed, patented[5], and marketed the first connected electronic cigarette[6][7].

In 2016, he founded the French neobank Qonto, specializing in online business accounts for freelancers, startups, SMEs, and associations[8][9]. He has been its CEO since 2016[10]. In January 2022, Qonto became France's biggest unicorn after raising €622 million, with its valuation estimated at €4.4 billion[11].

As of March 2024, the company had 450,000 customers and more than 1,400 employees across four markets in Europe (Germany, Spain, France, and Italy)[12][13][14]. It is listed in the Next40 index[15].

On 23 November 2022, Alexandre Prot was made a knight (chevalier) in the National Order of Merit for being a co-founder and chief executive of a company specializing in financial services; 15 years of service[16]
